Evaluation
From the beginning of my pre-production ,in order to gratified my target audiences demographic, who are young female audiences and age range within 16-30. They are mainly explorers but part of them are also aspirer,
which means they also concern about packing and good looking products. Therefore, I researched a lot of different types of exclusive and luxury magazines and analysis their cover, theme and genre before I go. This method brings me to to have more and more ideas while designing my magazine.
I also found some different lexis about mainstream food magazine to attract more audiences easily. In my pre-production, I realised that I need to prepare a lot of photos for a diverse magazine. I start to find some nice restaurants, vegan juices shop and sometimes cook food at home for the magazine photos. As I want to satisfy my audiences psychographic, which is explorers always love and willing to knows new things and enjoy diverse choices of content. However, I had trouble on figure out magazine style at first but after receiving miss Cowan advises and the source she provided. I keep trying to change layout and typography, and the trouble finally settled.
Eating clean, being healthy and go vegan in the United Kingdom has become a trend over the recent years. More and more people are turning to eat ‘’clean ‘’. The question is, how much is this issue influenced by social media? A variety of social media platforms first became popular from 2006 onwards. These include the Instagram tag, YouTube and online Blog. Some famous health YouTubers, as well as celebrities, make a good effect on eating clean through social media by using some impressive images of food to appeals youngsters. Because of the social comparison, it turns the UK adolescents more concerned about health and turns their diet to clean eating by eating whole foods. It is altering UK youngsters eating norms easily.
UK young adults have a better understanding of the knowledge of nutrition rather than making restrictive eliminations or amending their relationship between foods and our bodies. It’s what ultimately leads to a change of long-term lifestyle and a sustainable relationship with food. Breakfast, for instance, after transforming a normal marmalade on toast to the bright tone of avocado toast. In order to make their social media platform and themselves look more modest on social media. Millennials copy celebrities’ actions. Now, Instagram has 250,000 #avocadotoast hashtagged photos. We can evidently see the capability of influence from social media on changing what we eat. Experts also state that eating whole food can make our cell function become healthier and decrease the risk of chronic disease likewise. Moreover, such as the famous Uk healthy blogger DeliciouslyElla provides recipes, healthy cooking tips and her health experiences through social media, by posting different impressive and colourful images. Each of the pictures is also included with the recipe and nutrients, such as Omega 3, Vitamin A , C , D, etc. It motivates youngsters to pay more attention to their eating habits and encourages them to eat real food. Her account also attracts an enormous amount of followers and earned a lot of “likes”. Obviously, Social Media, such as Facebook, Instagram, YouTube are undeniably altering the UK people eating habit.
Therefore, it inspired me to write an article about how social media led the public to eat clean and become healthier as well as make an interview with people who were also influenced by media and change her eating habits. After that, I decided to establish a trendy food magazine which genre is health, cooking & Food. Young audiences who love receive trendy eating messages is targeted. It also interested for mainstream audiences.
In order to appeals the targeted audiences eyes, a cool magazine cover is needed.
Therefore, I tried to take some juicy fruits photos and edited by Adobe Photoshop to make it look more stylish. For the sake of catching the audience eyes ball, I used extreme close up shot to capture the fruit pattern in detail. I also looked up some professional food photographers blogs and their tutorial videos. I found out that most of those photographers will put Baby-oil while photographing in order to increase the shininess. Ultimately, it really looks juicier than before. It was a really useful skill and tip for me take my photo shot.
As regard to the cover page, I put a huge cover line ‘’pick up a picnic ‘’ on the left third of the magazine cover, which I want the customer can feel more relax and healing when seeing the front cover. On the other hand, short cover lines that are easy to read. As for Anchorage, I used ’’Summer’s best fruit‘’, the test worked with the main fruit image grapefruit. For the selling line, I put ’’ The best trendy magazine in the UK’’ on top of the masthead, which emphasized the magazine is the most modest and latest and put dateline. Furthermore, I used diverse styles of font and apply different sort of shadow behind each test, which won’t make the reader feel bored about the cover and make it better-looking.
For the content page, I try to use colours and textures that compliment the food ,which is choosing a good background.I set up some green plants behind the green juice. I also took to vary the background while doing a photograph.
For the articles, I found a variety of media influencer examples including YouTuber Nichola Whitehead, English healthy food blogger DeliciouslyElla and celebrities like Victoria Beckham. For the interview, I also asked a wide range of questions which included positive side and negative side. For example,‘’Are there any inconveniences being vegan?’’and asked ”some positive changes”. In addition , all the pictures of the magazine is all taken by me.
However, while doing the coursework. I still facing countless difficulties. While using photoshop, I always choose some wrong tools and is hard to select the image perfectly. Sometimes I was forced to stop and difficult to step backwards. I am weak at select images and still cannot use photoshop so flexible and this is what I need to do improve in the future. I also found that choosing some suitable flash and the use of colour are difficult and it was time-consuming. Apart from advance my skills, I also need to read and see more magazines to gain a better insight on how to make a more professional magazine cover in the future.
In conclusion, I feel that practice more can help. As after edited numerous fruit photos, I feel that my editing skills were boosted dramatically than the first term. Besides, watching the YouTube tutorial videos can also help us to know more about tools function and work on it. Lastly, even though doing food magazines is really intriguing. Nevertheless
, I also interest in travel magazines, So, maybe I will try a travel magazine in the future.
